Monthly Wrap-up

This is my super late monthly wrap-up. I did listen to the audiobook of Hopeless by Coleen Hoover but I didn't finish it. I'm not into cheesy romance. I also read The Little Prince on ebook.
So here are the books I finished for the month of July.

The Last Olympian by Rick Riordon

This last book of Percy Jackson was so epic. Everything was so perfect! I love the action! Every characters are awesome, the twists and turns are so overwhelming.I love the way Percy turned out. To be honest, I didn't like him(I don't care about him) until I started reading The Last Olympian, way to go Percy! You earned yourself a new fan, but Tyson and Nico are still my baes. This book was a perfect ender to an epic adventure.

Rating: 5 stars/5 stars

World After by Susan Ee
"We must be quite the sight. Raffe in his red mask with his demon wings spread out in all their scythe-edged glory. A scrawny teenage Daughter of Man brandishing an archangel sword and a little girl stitched-up to look and behave like a nightmare who is clutching a pair of angel wing"

This book was intoxicating! I can't help myself on turning the pages. It has a lot to offer; Kick-ass characters, romance, sick vengeance, death, horror and blood! It's a thrilling read for me tho I need more Penryn and Raffe moments. This book live up to my expectation.

"Because she looked like a monster, that's why and it never occurred to me that monsters might feel pain."

Penryn is a perfect kick-ass heroine with her sword. Paige, I didn't expect what happened to her, I almost cried. Raffe the devastatingly handsome fallen angel, he made me fell in love with him for the second time around. I so admire his sly remarks and sarcasm. This sequel never disappoints me and I don't want to read the last book. :(

Rating: 5 stars/5stars

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazement. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night."

This book is so fascinating, magical and enchanting. I love the imagery the author uses. The story is slow that's why it took me so long to finished it because this is a character-driven book and every character intrigued me so I kept on reading. Nonetheless, I still recommend this to everyone who loves Fantasy and the intoxicating madness.

Rating: 4 stars/5 stars

I'm kinda messed up right now, listening to audiobook which I tend not to finish. Reading on ebook in which I don't give a fuck. So yeah I'm planning to manage my reading this month and do a TBR jar. :)

June Reading Wrap-up

School just started and being a college student is so hectic and busy but still I've found time to read. This month I've read 3 books, but these books are great and awesome! I've found my new favorite fantasy book to add to my growing favorite books!
The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4) by Rick Riordon

"We know what you wrestle with everyday. We know your indecision. You will have to make your choice sooner or later. And that choice mat kill you." - Janus

This book is so awesome! I love how the story goes and the action!! It's not like the last three books which are predictable but this book kept me wondering and anticipating. Every characters are growing up. Tyson my adorable cyclops fight the monsters he's so cool. Nico the son of Hades is still a mystery to me, I admire his courage, braveness and his dark aura. Percy is not annoying me anymore tho I need to see him growing up and making decisions. So far my fave book of the series.

Unwholly(Unwind Dystology #2) by Neal Shusterman

"The bad are bad, the good are good and being caught in between is just an illusion. There is no gray."

Unwholly is kinda boring, the first 300 pages are kinda meh, there's nothing happening but when I reached the page 360 the action kicked in and like a dynamite BOOM! It exploded I was going out of my mind. Lev way to go! Connor please do the right thing! Risa where the hell are you? Damn you Starkey! and Cam please be brave! It started slow but it's good.

Shadow and Bone (Grisha Trilogy #1) by Leigh Bardugo

"You're the first glimmer of hope I've had in a long time." - Darkling

The world, characters and the story are so amazingly written. This book made me shed tears because of joy and heartbreak. It will take you to an incredible journey and the romance GOSH!! It will make you want more and more. I literally flew through it. Alina and Mal is my ultimate OTP <3

May Reading Wrap-up

I made May my reading month, in where I will read books as much as I can. I read a total of 7 books this month and I'm happy about it 'cause these books are so awesome and fun to read.

The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #3) by Rick Riordon

Well, I read this book for 3 days. For me it was much better than the second book. Great new characters and exciting plot. It is a very fast paced story but a bit predictable. I laugh a lot and I'm liking Percy 'cause he's being more mature.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

"Find the evil in the castle, but the only truly evil thing is the man ruling it."

I decided to read this book because of the hype around it. For me the first half is kinda boring because there's a lot of world building but what I should expect in the first book of a trilogy? As I read, I found myself flipping the pages so fast, I'm fascinated of The Adarlan's Assassin -The Queen of Underworld who loves dresses and parties. Chaol who is the captain of the guards who I think fancies Celeana and to Dorian The prince who loves to read. Who don't admire a prince who loves to read?!! Definitely not me! I love him. I"ll get the next 2 books soon. I heard it gets better and better.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K Rowling

The second book is a bit predictable and just like the first book, Voldemort showed himself again and wanted to kill Harry. It's fast-paced and I have so much fun reading it. I love Ron and Hermione bickering to each others. I pity Harry Potter for spending his birthday alone and he was treated like nothing by the Dursleys ugh :( But Harry Potter is really brave even he don't have his parents. He have his friends with him Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore, Hagrid, George and Fred. Fawkes the Phoenix. Dobby is so cute.

Ashes to Ashes by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian (Burn for Burn #3)

This last installment of Burn for Burn disappointed me. It's just like it needed to end the BOOM! It ended with nothing. Ugh.

Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2)

"That was the most astonishing thing that they had found each other, even across worlds and lifetimes. For pure and shining moment, Karou had known joy"

The world of Karou and Akiva is so fascinating and engrossing. This book is heartbreakingly painful and depressing. It drained all the happiness in me but made me feel different kinds of emotions. Its like Karou and Akiva doesn't have the chance to be happy, it kills me :( Laini Taylor is the best, her poetic style of writing made me fall in love with her. I need time to read the last book 'cause I cannot make myself fall in sadness again.

"He wanted to tell her that everything he had done had done because he was broken, because watching her die had destroyed him, but there was no way to say it that didn't sound like he was trying to pin the blame outside himself"

This Song Will Save Yourself by Leila Sales

"That's the problem with life. You never get enough time to stare at your ceiling and try to figure out what's going on."

This book was full of emotions and inspiring, I found myself relating to the main character (Elise). She's lonely, frustrated and she was having trouble finding her place in the world. Her story was quite painful tho it was an uplifting experience. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who's having a tough time in their life. Maybe you can be Elise who found herself in music or perhaps you can find a piece of yourself in her story

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K Rowling (Harry Potter #3)

This book is my favorite so far. I love the twists and turns of Harry's story, it is different from the first two books. I love how it covered the story of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prong. THIS BOOK IS SO AWESOME!!

As I said I had a fun month of reading.

"Would You Rather" Book Tag

Yey for another book tag!

Let's do it!

1. Rather read only a series or stand-alone books?
I rather read series because when I get attached to the characters and the plots I just can't help myself to be emotional and excited. Series tend to be more exciting than stand-alone books.

2.Rather read a book whose main character is male or female?
I always get hooked when the main character is a female. So I rather read a book whose main character is female, basically because I'm a girl.

3. Rather shop only at Barnes & Noble (or other actual bookstore) or Amazon?
Rather shop on a actual bookstore because its all in the experience walking around and getting your books in their shelf, (though I lived in a Philippines and Amazon shipping cost is so expensive.)

4. Rather all books become movies or tv shows?
Definitely TV shows! So I can watch my favorite books longer <3

5. Rather read 5 pages per day or read 5 books per week?
I rather read 5 books per week because I can't get myself on reading 5 pages per day! Seriously.

6. Rather be a professional book reviewer or an author?
I rather be a book reviewer 'cause it is much easier than being an author.

7. Rather only read the same 20 books over and over or get to read a new book every 6 months?
This is so hard! I rather read the same 20 books over and over because reading a new book every 6 months is hell. I can't wait 6 months to read a new book. So yeah read the same 20 books especially if those books are my faves.

8. Rather be a librarian or own a book store?
Own a book store! Its like you can read any books you like for free and earn money!

9. Rather only read your favorite genre or your favorite author?
This is so easy I rather read my favorite genre which is Fantasy because all my favorite authors are into the Fantasy genre. So yeah XD

10. Rather only read physical books or eBooks?
Physical books because the experience of reading physical books are not the same on ebooks.

Books I Want to Buy

Manila International Book Fair is coming!Bookworms are anticipating this event because books are on a huge discounts for a week! Yes for a week! Who don't love that? I have four months to save money.

I've been looking on goodreads, blogs and booktube for book recommendations. So here are the books that I want to buy when MIBF comes or when I can't fight the urge on going to a bookstore and buy them sooner.

Top 10 Books I Probably Buy
  • Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski( Goodreads rating 4.07 /   21,184 ratings )

"Winning what you want may cost you everything you love...

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart."

"The dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life in pictures only Librarians can read. The dead, called 'Histories', rest in the Archive.

Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was, a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often—violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper is dangerous and a constant reminder of those she lost, Da and her little brother. Mac wonders about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. Yet someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall".

Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins."

  • The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness ( Goodreads rating 3.95/ 78,366 ratings )

"Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

This radiant novel from the acclaimed, award-winning author of The Sky Is Everywhere will leave you breathless and teary and laughing—often all at once. "

  • The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton (Goodreads rating 4.13/  8,536 ratings  )
"Magical realism, lyrical prose, and the pain and passion of human love haunt this hypnotic generational saga.
Foolish love appears to be the Roux family birthright, an ominous forecast for its most recent progeny, Ava Lavender. Ava—in all other ways a normal girl—is born with the wings of a bird.

In a quest to understand her peculiar disposition and a growing desire to fit in with her peers, sixteen-year old Ava ventures into the wider world, ill-prepared for what she might discover and naïve to the twisted motives of others. Others like the pious Nathaniel Sorrows, who mistakes Ava for an angel and whose obsession with her grows until the night of the Summer Solstice celebration.

That night, the skies open up, rain and feathers fill the air, and Ava’s quest and her family’s saga build to a devastating crescendo.

First-time author Leslye Walton has constructed a layered and unforgettable mythology of what it means to be born with hearts that are tragically, exquisitely human."

These books are either second or third in the series that I would probably buy when those books above are not available. (alternatives)
  • The Unbound ( The Archived #2)
  • Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)
  • The Winner's Crime (The Winner's Trilogy #2)
  • Clockwork Prince (Infernal Devices #2)
  • The Ask and The Answer ( Chaos Walking #2)
  • The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2)
  • Rebel Spring (Falling Kingdoms #2)
I hope I can wait till September to buy these books. I'm not buying books every month unlike what I did these past few months for preparation on MIBF. I hope I can get a good deal. These book might change because I can't stick on my decisions I always changes my mind. Yeah, that's me.

So I'm breaking up with you shuck faced!

2. Red
(pick a book with a RED cover)
I don't have any red book shame on me :(

 5. I Knew You Were Trouble
(pick a bad character you couldn't help but love)

Definitely Valentine Morgenstern he's so manipulative, brilliant, ruthless, mysterious and a mad man. I can't help to love him because of his strong personality he's good looking too. mehehe :3

6. Innocent
(pick a book that someone ruined the ending for)

My classmate spoiled me the whole The Selection Trilogy. She told me everything what happened on the second book and third book,  I've only read the first book and I don't plan on reading the rest so I let her to spoil the whole series and I don't care when she started talking about it.
